Matt Biondi is entering his fifth season as Head Coach of the Sierra Canyon Swim and Dive team. Biondi has appeared in three different Olympic Games where he won a total of 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals and one bronze medal in his career. During his career, he also set three individual world records. Last year, he was named Pac-12 Swimmer of the 20th century.
What is your favorite part of coaching? “I appreciate seeing the joy on a swimmer’s face when they have improve their performance and event times. It also pleases me greatly when teammates stand at pool side cheering and waving towels for each other with encouragement.”
What is your fondest memory coaching for Sierra Canyon? “Last year at the league championship, Leor Alon held off a fast charging Viewpoint team to win the spring free relay by the slimmest of margins as I stood next to our Head of School, our Upper School Director and Leor’s father.”
What makes coaching at Sierra Canyon so special? “I have a unique perspective on individual learning styles as I also teach mathematics to many of the athletes.”
