The Sierra Canyon girls volleyball team had its season come to a close Wednesday night after a 25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-14 setback against Mira Costa in the Open Division state regional playoffs in Manhattan Beach.

The loss was the third in the last four matches for the Trailblazers (34-8) which won the Mission League for a second consecutive year and participated in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Last year, Sierra Canyon won the SS Division 1 crown with a sweep of Mira Costa.

This year, the Trailblazers went 1-2 in the SS pool-play, losing to league-rival Marymount in five sets and eventual SS champion Mater Dei in a sweep. Sierra Canyon’s lone playoff victory came against Palos Verdes in five sets.

Sierra Canyon graduates seven seniors, including Boston College-bound Danica Rach, George Washington-bound Taylor Treahy and Hawaii-bound Maddie Way.

Also departing are Sade Ilawole, Halie McGinest, Lola Brown and Rachael Reyes.

Sierra Canyon returns libero Lauren Lynch and Hanna McGinest as key pieces going into next year. Big things will be expected from rising freshman Eva Jeffries.

The Trailblazers had an 18-match best of-five sets winning streak and hadn’t lost in California until the playoff match against Marymount. Their only previous losses came in tournament matches in Hawaii, Arizona and Nevada.
