The Sierra Canyon softball team didn’t play many regular season games.

Rain and other factors contributed to only 14 contests instead of up to 28.

But the Trailblazers went 6-2 in the tough Mission League and qualified as the second place team for the Division 3 playoffs.

Things got off to a great start Tuesday with a 6-0 shut out win against Foothill League second place team Saugus.

Sophia Debs threw four innings and struck out six. Duke-bound Hailey Shuler threw three innings and blasted a two-run home run.

Debs was 3 for 3 with a double and RBI.

Nina Peyton-Johnson hit a two-run home run.

Lianna Lara had a an RBI.

Riley Furnace and Peyton Jackson each had a single.

Sierra Canyon moves onto Tuesday’s second round and will host Redondo Union at 3:15 p.m. on the corner of Variel and Rinaldi at the lower school campus.
