Sierra Canyon girls volleyball cannot be stopped

The Sierra Canyon girls volleyball program is rolling in the right direction.

The Trailblazers ran their winning streak to 12 consecutive matches Wednesday after a 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 Mission League victory against Alemany and former coach Morgan Wijay.

After losing a rare opening set, Sierra Canyon coach Stefanie Wigfall took her team into an adjacent equipment room and told the girls they needed to come to play and respect the team on the other side of the net.

Mission accomplished.

Long Beach Poly-bound Halie McGinest had 15 kills, seven digs, two blocks and two aces.

Boston College-bound Danica Rach had 13 kills, eight digs and four blocks. San Diego-bound junior Lauren Lynch had 27 digs and an ace. Sade Ilawole had 52 assists.

Sierra Canyon knocked off Notre Dame Academy of Los Angeles earlier in the week in a three-set sweep.

Halie McGinest had 13 kills and five digs.

Hanna McGinest had eight kills and six digs, Lynch added 13 digs and two aces, and Ilawole had 34 assists to help the Trailblazers.

The Trailblazers have not lost since mid-August in Hawaii, have not lost in California and have won 83 of their past 84 league matches.

Sierra Canyon now goes to Las Vegas for the prestigious Durango tournament before two Mission League road matches next week.
