Trailblazers Open Season With Win

Orem, UT – The Sierra Canyon Trailblazers made the 676 mile trip to Utah worthwhile as they defeated the Orem Tigers 30-20 on Friday night.

Running back Bobby Cole lead the way with 158 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns on a three yard and 25 yard run.

“Coming to Utah was a great bonding experience with my brothers,” Cole said.  “This is the first time that Sierra Canyon has left California so we had to show Utah what we are all about.”

The strong running performance came behind the strength of a young offensive line.  The Trailblazers started an offensive line that included three sophomores, one junior, and one senior.  Two of the three sophomores made their first ever Varsity start and opened some huge holes for Cole.

“Those sophomores stepped up and showed everybody what they could do,” Cole said.  “We are a team with some depth and a lot of hungry guys who want to be on the field.”

Senior quarterback Niko Harris looked confident behind the young offensive line as well.  Harris completed 15 of 20 passes for 195 yards and scored on a 38 yard touchdown run.

“We had a lot of young guys step up tonight on the offensive line,” Harris said.  “We played some very physical football tonight.”

The Trailblazers are on the road next Friday night at Palisades High School at 7 pm.

“Now that we have our first game under our belt, we can begin to focus on the little stuff,”  Harris said.
