Sierra Canyon wins two games in the opening week

The Sierra Canyon boys basketball team took care of business with two victories in the opening week of the season.

The Trailblazers had no issues with St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs and Rancho Christian of Temecula.

In the 102-42 thrashing of St. Paul, Justin Pippen had 24 points, Noah Williams had 22 points and Bryce Cofield 20.

Sierra Canyon made 16 3-pointers in the contest. The halftime score was 63-25. It was 82-36 after three quarters. A running clock was used in the fourth quarter.

Osami Maciel had 14 points and Tong Mawein 12 to lead Patrick Roy’s club. Roy was the head coach at Inglewood when Paul Pierce was there as a standout player.

Saturday’s game against Rancho Christian was played at Pierce College in Woodland Hills and the Trailblazers won 79-50.

Pippen had 23 points, Cofield had 21 points and Jayden Alexander had 17 to lead Sierra Canyon (2-0).

Brian Amenueke had 23 points to lead Rancho Christian.

Sierra Canyon is still without the services of Arkansas-bound Isaiah Elohim and transfers Ethan Johnson (Chaminade), Stephan Kankole (Crespi) and Michael Baba (Alemany).

Elohin is nursing a knee injury.

Sierra Canyon hosts Highland of Palmdale Tuesday before a tough road game against Clovis North in Fresno at the Save Mart Center (Fresno St.)
