Sierra Canyon routs Bishop Amat in Mission League game

The Sierra Canyon football team keeps elevating itself among the best in Southern California.

The Trailblazers improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Mission League after an easy 56-14 victory against Bishop Amat.

Wyatt Becker completed 10 of 15 passes for 187 yards including four touchdowns to lead Sierra Canyon, headed for the Div.1 playoffs.

Becker connected with Xavier Jordan, Kwazi Gilmer, Cameron Mitchell and Dino Scordia for scoring plays of 20, 50, 23 and 40 yards, respectively.

Terrell Cooks and Dane Dunn did their part in the running game with 202 yards rushing and three touchdowns combined.

Cooks gained 143 yards in four carries, including a 75-yard touchdown. Dunn rushed for 59 yards in 10 carries with touchdowns of four and two yards.

Even the freshmen got in on the action.

Demarco Hernandez found Jaxsen Stokes for a 52-yard touchdown to close the scoring late for Sierra Canyon.

Jae’on Young had an interception and Marquis Gallegos recovered a fumble for a defense that allowed just 90 yards on the ground.

Sierra Canyon led 42-7 at halftime, tying the largest halftime deficit ever on the home field for Bishop Amat. St. John Bosco led 35-0 last year.

The Trailblazers travel down Rinaldi Ave. Friday night for a game with neighborhood-rival Alemany before hosting Serra of Gardena October 20th in a first-place league showdown.
