Girls Tennis: Sierra Canyon season comes to an end in close fashion

Sierra Canyon Girls Tennis Loses to Mark Keppel in second round

By Jacob H. Pollon

The Sierra Canyon girls tennis team had its season come to a close Friday after a very close 9-9 (73-71 in games) setback against Mark Keppel of Alhambra in the second round of the Division 3 playoffs.

Each team won the same amount of sets but Keppel won more games, just two more to advance to next week’s quarterfinals.

Lyric Wilson and Betty Chen each won two sets. Wilson dropped a set against Keppel’s No. 1 player. Chen dropped a set to the No. 2 player.

Danica Quinn and Bridgette Mertzel won two doubles sets as did Sienna Martin and Hannah LaChappelle.

The issue for the Trailblazers was losing five of six sets against Keppel’s No. 1’s.

It was a very successful campaign for Sierra Canyon, which won its second consecutive Angelus League championship and made another nice run in the playoffs.

Furthermore, Wilson and Chen teamed up to win the Angelus League doubles title.
