The Sierra Canyon girls volleyball has picked up right where it left off. The Trailblazers are 2-0 on the young season after picking up two nonleague victories this week.

Sierra Canyon took down St. Paul 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 on Tuesday before an impressive 25-14, 25-17, 25-21 sweep at Westlake on Thursday.

“We were a bit shaky out of the gate but turned things around and buckled down,” Sierra Canyon coach Stefanie Wigfall said. “We just had to make some adjustments and more importantly settle down.”

Leading the way is Long Beach St.-bound Jaylen Jordan, Taylor Simpson, Sydney Montgomery and Addison Peeler.

Jordan had 13 kills and seven digs against Westlake. Simpson finished with 43 assists, 13 digs and three assists. Montgomery had nine kills and 10 digs. Peeler contributed seven kills.

“It’s great to win to start the year off right,” Jordan said. “We cane be a really good team. A lot of the girls have experience from last year and we have some newcomers who are ready to help now.”

Two freshman that have turned heads early are Stormy Gorence and Jaida Sione. Sione had nine kills and two blocks against Westlake after missing the season opener on vacation. Natalie and Olivia Babcock, two freshmen sisters are also expected to make waves this year.

Sierra Canyon travels to the San Diego area to participate in the prestigious La Costa Canyon tournament over the weekend. We will have a report Monday.
