SIERRA CANYON TRYING TO GET THINGS ROLLING

CHATSWORTH — The Sierra Canyon boys soccer team has not had many victories on the pitch, but things are looking up.

The boys recently beat Windward 2-0 in an impressive Gold Coast League victory.

The senior leaders on the squad are Talha Rafique and Julian Switalla. Rafique is on the back row and Switalla is a center/mid.

The team has recently been boosted by the arrival of several football players, who had a very long season into mid-December.

“Our starting 11 is solid now and now we have depth,” Sierra Canyon coach Kristy Walker said. “It’s nice to have a full roster.”

A couple other players to keep a watch on are junior Josh Bryan (goal scored against Windward) and the freshmen duo of Constantine Theodoratos and Vasili Fovos.

“The young freshmen are contributing and helping,” Walker said.

A tough stretch of road matches is coming up after Tuesday’s home match with Paraclete. Sierra Canyon will face Campbell Hall, Viewpoint, Crossroads and Flintridge Prep away from the friendly confines of the SC Athletic Complex (DeSoto and Rinaldi).

“The goal is to get through this five-game stretch and power through league,” Walker said. “If things fall right the boys could end up in the playoffs.”
