The Sierra Canyon girls soccer team has had some challenges during nonleague play but is looking forward to coming back from Winter break and starting Mission League play, looking for a playoff spot.

The Trailblazers will welcome three new players, who all had to serve a sit-out period after transferring to SC.

Sierra Canyon coach Will Beard is excited about adding Delilah Reynolds, Olivia Rufo and Liani Dellilio to the lineup.

“This will allow us to put people in the right positions,” Beard said. “We have had girls playing out of position for the first month and a half.”

Sierra Canyon will face Harvard-Westlake, Notre Dame, Chaminade, Marymount and Flintridge-Sacred Heart twice in hopes of a top-3 finish in league and earn an automatic playoff spot.

“We need to win the matches we are supposed to win and steal a match or two from some of the powers,” Beard said. “We definitely have a chance.”

The Trailblazers beat Royal of Simi Valley and tied Poly of Riverside in the preseason to taste some success.

Sierra Canyon now has the 10 league matches and a nonleague match with Crossroads in January to right the ship.

“I like where we are at,” Beard said. “Things are coming together. We got some matches under our belt, We are adding some pieces and we are putting people where they need to be. Now, We have to perform on the field.”
