The Sierra Canyon girls tennis twosome of Betty Chen and sophomore Lyric Wilson keep winning matches.

The outstanding duo has had no issues in winning its first three matches of the Southern Section individuals doubles tournament and has advanced to next week’s championships.

Chen and Wilson knocked off Esther Oyadela and Maribela Cosico of California High without surrendering a game and did the same to Chloe Bronilla and Mia Rafael of Cerritos.

Up Next was a sweep of La Canada’s Kaylee Thornburgh and Jessica Simonian 6-3, 6-1.

“To put it in perspective, the doubles journey started about a month ago with 900 teams across So. Cal.,” Sierra Canyon girls tennis coach Carlo Bertumen said. “The three matches the girls won today was the top 200 teams spread across five different sites. Now, the girls will play Nov. 29th in Claremont in the final 20.”

Chen and Wilson winning is nothing new.

Both girls dominated singles play during the regular season to help Sierra Canyon claim a second consecutive Angelus League championship and teamed up to win the league doubles title.

Now, the duo has bigger fish to fry trying to win the school’s first ever tennis title in any individual/team competition.
