CHATSWORTH — The Sierra Canyon boys and girls swimming program had a successful showing at the Gold Coast League championships at Brentwood School last week.

The girls finished in third place and the boys took fourth place. The entire squad competed well.

“We are so very proud of all our swimmers,” Sierra Canyon asst. Debby Shively said. “We hope to continue to grow and get better.”

A couple standouts were Fresno St-bound Marissa Johnson and freshman Jason Hawkins.

Johnson won the 500 free in 5:02.68 while setting a new school record. Johnson also won the 100 backstroke in 58.02.

“Marissa has just been awesome,” Shively said. “She has been a great all year and a pleasure to work with.”

Hawkins, just a ninth grader, showed he will be a force to be reckon with for years to come. Hawkins won the 50 free in 22.49 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.47

A very impressive start to his high school career.

Sierra Canyon next competes this week in Riverside on Wednesday and Thursday. The Southern Section prelims are on Wednesday and the finals on Thursday at UC Riverside pool.
